With the need to honour the original vision of the treaties in Canada, the mining sector offers an opportunity. Through new agreements on land use, procurement, and environmental monitoring, Indigenous communities are opening new doors to self-determination. The four presenters have insight into the institutional change that precipitated these opportunities, the unique environmental impact assessment arrangements that have emerged and, most importantly, the Indigenous business and development companies and forge a new future for their communities.
