Purpose and goal

The pre-study shall contribute to that a larger part of the material in Li-ion batteries is recovered. The objective of the study is to develop a hydrometallurgical concept for the recycling of Li and other metals in dust formed during pyro metallurgical recovery of metals such as cobalt, nickel and copper. Leaching conditions as well as methods for purification via various methods are studied.

Expected results and effects

The pre-study shall contribute to that a larger part of the material in Li-ion batteries is recovered. The objective of the study is to develop a hydrometallurgical concept for the recycling of Li and other metals in dust formed during pyro metallurgical recovery of metals such as cobalt, nickel and copper. Leaching conditions as well as methods for purification via various methods are studied.

Planned approach and implementation

Dust generated and recovered in laboratory experiments are characterized with respect to suitable hydrometallurgical concept, information in the literature will be used. Synthetic dust with as equivalent contents and properties as possible is prepared and used in laboratory experiments on leaching and purification methods. The intention is to finally validate with dust produced initially. Based on the results, recommendations for continued work are given.
