Case closed: Automation and Safety in High-Stress Deep Mining

Deadline: 27 March

Codelco faces challenges as mining operations reach greater depths, where geomechanical conditions become more complex, increasing seismic risks and endangering personnel safety. To address this, Codelco focuses on automating high-risk tasks in the horizontal development cycle, where exposure to risks like rockbursts and collapses is greatest.

Automation and remote operation are key to reducing personnel exposure, making it possible to move closer to zero-accident operations in deeper levels of mining. Codelco is looking for innovative solutions to enhance safety and improve efficiency in these high-stress environments.

The goal is simple: automation for safer and more efficient deep mining operations with minimal personnel exposure.
