Open case: Autonomous hole preparation for blasting

Epiroc is facing a challenge in ensuring that drilled holes are ready for blasting with minimal manual intervention. After drilling, it’s crucial to verify the quality of the hole, but manual checks are often time-consuming and unsafe.

Epiroc aims to automate quality checks of drill holes to improve efficiency, reduce manual labor, and eliminate unexpected surprises during the blasting process. The goal is to ensure that all holes are prepared properly for blasting, without delays or issues such as water, debris, or misalignment in the holes.

Currently, there are individual solutions like brushes for cleaning the holes, but Epiroc is seeking a system-wide autonomous solution that can verify the hole quality and make the process more efficient. The system or elements of a system should be as simple as possible while ensuring all necessary tasks are completed autonomously.
